Floor-to-ceiling square columns with brass hat racks, massive mirrors, varnished timber panelling and leather banquettes make this a sublime place to try the namesake ‘mort subite’ (‘sudden death’) gueuze. If this twice-fermented beer is too sour for your taste, order a kriek (cherry) or framboise (raspberry) version. Soak it up with old-school snacks like omelettes.

Beatiful restaurant and bar.

A place to be with your Friday night date where you can share a meticulously made cocktail, sitting with him or her on bar stools or at one of the secluded tables enjoying the classic rock music and the comfort of the couches.

Has a Buddha Bar feel to the place, and is set within a group of Thai style buildings, giving it a chic feeling. The bar itself is decorated with Asian antiques and Chinese beds. Also in the compound are three restaurants serving Thai, Indian and Japanese food all with their own distinct style. To top it all off there is also a spa offering traditional Thai massage. It is defiantly one of Bangkok’s must-see locations.

Although it’s not exactly a smoky den filled with finger-snapping hep cats, every night the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit’s deceptively bland hotel lounge transforms into one of the city’s best venues for live jazz. Check ahead of time to see which sax master or hide hitter is currently in town.

This ineffably romantic spot on the rocks outside the south walls offers nothing but drinks served on outdoor tables overlooking the sea. It’s just outside the city walls and you can find it by looking for the ‘Cold Drinks’ sign and going through a hole in the walls. Get there for the sunset.

Harry’s bar: more than a bar, an institution! The interiors are refined and chic, but the most fascinating thing is to have a drink and eat typical Venetian dishes in the magnificent setting of St. Mark’s Square, watching the Lagoon and sticking to all sorts of local beauties. Probably, the prices are a little high, but for once in your life…

It is the best hotel in town. Hospitality is excellent. Roof top swimming pool is something special even if the depth is only four feet. G bar is special among all other bars in Vijayawada.

Insomnia Lounge is that rare Shibuya find: a bar for grown-ups. Good food, low music and a cosy, mirrored red interior make it the kind of place to come when you’re in the mood for conversation. The kitchen’s open late, and the oddly eyeball-esque mirrored wall behind the bar will induce insomnia if you’re not already feeling it.

Of all the historic haunts, this is our favourite for its elegantly poured beers in long glasses, served by waiters wearing black waistcoats and long white aprons. Hemingway sang its praises in A Moveable Feast and today its faded glamour is neither too faded nor too glamorous but simply perfect. Stellar brasserie fare like pork knuckle, too.
